This Is How You Can Iron Silk Clothes Without Damaging Them

July 16, 2018

Silk is one of the most delicate fabrics and the most expensive of all. This is why it needs special attention when it comes to ironing and creases removal.

Step 1: Prepare the setting

You can’t use any iron to smooth out your silk clothes. Steam generator irons such as Pro Express X-Pert Plus feature a special setting technology that’s developed only to take care of silk fabrics. Make sure the soleplate is clean, adjust your ironing board to waist height and spread over it a large white cotton sheet. The cotton fabric will prevent colors from other fabrics from leaching onto your silk.

Step 2: Iron the silk garment

After you’ve washed your silk clothes by hand and squeezed them gently to remove excess water, it’s time to iron them. Turn your silk garment inside out to avoid damaging the front side of your fabric. Lay a small piece of cotton cloth over the area you’re ironing. Some moisture may leak to the cotton fabric from the damp silk. Press the iron around it until you’re satisfied with the result. When you’re done, lift the cotton cloth and place it over the next area you intend to iron. Repeat until your silk garment is perfectly smoothed out and creases-free. Place it on a hanger and allow it to dry for few minutes then wear it or store it.
