Discovering Different Types Of Tea

July 16, 2018

You may know black and green tea among the best-known and most popular types; but they are certainly not the only ones available! Depending on the country, the tastes, the traditions of its inhabitants and the type of plant cultivated, you can find white tea, blue tea, and even the extremely rare yellow tea.

An endless variety

Just pick a color, any color! And don’t forget to boil water in an electric kettle such as Justine to fasten the process especially if you are in a rush!

Whether at home or in a café, you just got to love your cup of tea alongside your pancakes or shakshouka! If you prefer it green and light, the most popular variety is Gunpowder and Darjeeling. It’s the overall favorite in Asian and North African countries, such as Turkey, Japan and China. Both green and black teas have a fragrant aroma and come in an almost endless variety of flavors. They are usually blended with flower extracts (jasmine, rose), spices (cloves, cinnamon) or natural essences (vanilla, caramel).

If you’re looking for something a bit more exotic to try alongside toast, you can try one of the many other varieties of tea. Among the most aromatic and flavorful yet the rarest, are the white and yellow teas grown in China. And then of course there’s the “red tea” cultivated in South Africa, which is becoming very popular thanks to its delicate flavor and lack of caffeine.

Finally, the least-known varieties are the blue (Oolong) teas, that are semi-oxidized and cultivated in China and Taiwan. These have a very subtle and light flavor, similar to that of the green and black tea. As for the really adventurous, there are the fermented dark teas that are mainly found in specialist shops and tea rooms. These teas have gone through a fermentation process lasting several years, to produce very strong flavors ranging from bitter to very balanced.
