How to boil pasta like a real Italian

December 17, 2018

Pasta is one of the most popular foods around the world and the easiest to cook! That is, of course, if you follow the right steps. Here’s your ultimate guide to boil pasta like a real Italian!

Boil the water

You need a lot more water than you think to cook the perfect pasta. That is, because you need your pasta to soak and move freely as you cook it. Fill your Intuition stainless steel pasta pot with water and bring the latter to a boil.

Season only once

Once the water starts to boil (not before that), add a generous sprinkle of salt. It’s the only time you should add salt so make the best out of it. And keep in mind that you should never ever add oil to the pasta water or to the pasta in general! The oil is not necessary and will just coat your pasta once drained.

Add the pasta, but not immediately!

As soon as you add the salt, it cuts the boiling process. For that reason, wait for the water to boil again then add your pasta.

Al dente is the key

Cook the pasta according to the instructions on the box, or 2 minutes less but never more. When served, pasta should be cooked al dente, thus slightly firm, so that you can bite it. It’s actually better for you because it will take longer to digest and by that you will feel full for a longer period of time.

Save pasta water

If you’re serving pasta with a sauce, save a ¼ cup of pasta starchy water to your ingredients. This way, the sauce will stick better on your pasta. Buon appetito!
